Tough draw for Team Nigeria in Paris Olympics Table Tennis events
The draw for the table tennis events at the Paris 2024 Olympics games has presented Team Nigeria with challenging matchups.
Nigeria’s top player, Aruna Quadri, received a bye for the Opening Round but faces a difficult opponent in the Round of 64. He is set to compete against Romania’s Edouard Lonescu, whom he has faced once before. In their previous encounter, Lonescu defeated Quadri 3-2 during the semi-finals of the European Champions League. This will be their second meeting in any competition.
In the men’s singles, Olajide Omotayo has been drawn against Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan, presenting a tough opening round challenge.
In the women’s singles, Offiong Edem will face Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi, while debutant Fatimo Bello is set to encounter Jia Nana Yuan, the Chinese-born French player, in what is anticipated to be a formidable first-round match.
Should Aruna Quadri advance past Lonescu, he will face the world number one, Wang Chuqin, in the Round of 32, further intensifying the challenge for the Nigerian star.
