TP Mazembe Threaten CAF Complaint Over Fireworks Outside Team Hotel in Tunisia

Congolese football club TP Mazembe have threatened to report Club Africain supporters to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over an alleged disturbance outside their hotel in Tunis, Tunisia.
The incident reportedly happened on Tuesday night, 20 October 2026, as TP Mazembe prepared for their CAF Champions League second preliminary round return leg against the Tunisian side.
According to reports, TP Mazembe said a group of Club Africain supporters gathered outside the hotel where their players and officials were staying at around 10 pm.
The club claimed that firecrackers and fireworks were set off for more than 10 minutes, disturbing the peace around the hotel and affecting the team’s rest ahead of the important continental fixture.
In a statement published on its official social media platforms, TP Mazembe said it reserved the right to take the matter to CAF, arguing that the incident could breach the competition’s regulations.
However, as of Wednesday, 21 October, no official response from Club Africain or CAF had been reported.
First Leg Ends in a Draw
The complaint comes ahead of a decisive encounter between the two clubs in the second leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.
The first leg, played at TP Mazembe’s home ground in Lubumbashi on Saturday, 17 October, ended in a 1-1 draw.
Josué Kazema gave the Congolese side the lead in the 38th minute, but Club Africain responded almost immediately, with Alain Kanté equalising a minute later.
Both teams now face a crucial return leg, with a place in the competition’s group stage at stake.
Return Leg Set for Sunday
The second leg is scheduled for Sunday, 25 October, at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Radès, Tunisia.
Club Africain will look to use home advantage to secure qualification, while TP Mazembe will aim to overcome their opponents on away soil.
With the first meeting ending level, both teams must seek a positive result to advance. If the match ends in another draw, the tie will be decided by a penalty shootout, according to reports.
The alleged hotel disturbance has added tension ahead of the encounter, with TP Mazembe considering formal action against what they described as an attempt to disrupt their preparations.
