Transfer: Bayern Munich Confirm Sommer Signing
Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 34-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Bavarians after joining for a reported fee of 9.5m euros.
Sommer is a replacement for Manuel Neuer, who broke his leg in a skiing accident in December and has been ruled out of the season.
The Switzerland goalkeeper is excited to join the Bundesliga Champions.
“I look forward to my tasks at Bayern, a big club with a lot of power,” Sommer said in a club statement.
“I’m proud of being a part of Bayern. We have big challenges in front of us.”
Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has opened up on what Sommer will offer Bayern Munich.
“Yann Sommer is a valuable reinforcement because he is internationally very experienced and knows the Bundesliga as well for many years,” club CEO Oliver Kahn said.
“He brings everything in order to be able to contribute immediately to our success. We are confident of reaching our goals with Yann Sommer.”
Sommer is expected to make his Bayern Munich debut against RB Leipzig on Friday.
