Tristan Thompson’s run of 447 consecutive games for Cavs ends

Every time the Cleveland Cavaliers have taken the court since February 10 2012, Tristan Thompson has been there with them. That streak will end Wednesday in Boston.

Thompson sprained his right thumb in Tuesday’s game against the Orlando Magic and will not play in at least the next two games – on Wednesday at the Celtics and on Friday against the Atlanta Hawks, the team announced.

The 26-year-old’s run of 447 consecutive games played is a franchise record and the longest active streak in the NBA, and his injury could hardly have come at a worse time for Cleveland.

Their Celtics is a showdown for first place in the Eastern Conference, with both teams sitting at 50-27 entering the contest. The Cavaliers have won three in a row entering the game, but they’re still trying to right themselves after going 7-10 in March.

Thompson is averaging 8.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
