Troost-Ekong scores his first goal In Saudi Arabia as Al Kholood fall to Al Hilal

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong opened his goal account for Al Kholood in the Saudi Pro League, converting a late penalty in his side’s 4-2 loss to Al Hilal on Saturday evening.

Despite his efforts, Troost-Ekong’s first goal in five appearances wasn’t enough to prevent a comprehensive defeat at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.

Al Kholood came into the game looking to bounce back from a 3-1 home defeat to Al Shabab but found themselves overwhelmed by Al Hilal’s dominance.

The hosts conceded three goals within seven minutes late in the first half, with Kalidou Koulibaly breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute. Brazilian forward Malcom doubled the lead five minutes later, before Ali Al-Bulayhi made it 3-0 just before the halftime whistle.

Renan Lodi added a fourth goal for Al Hilal two minutes into the second half, leaving Al Kholood with a mountain to climb. Hammam Al-Hammami pulled one back for Al Kholood in the 70th minute, and Troost-Ekong followed up with his penalty goal late in the game, bringing the scoreline to 4-2.

Despite the defeat, Troost-Ekong delivered a solid defensive performance, registering 27 touches, 10 accurate passes, two blocks, two clearances, one interception, and five recoveries. He also won two ground duels and two aerial duels, showcasing his defensive capabilities even in a difficult match.

Troost-Ekong’s goal came as a small consolation for Al Kholood, who now sit in 12th place in the Saudi Pro League with just four points from five matches. They have recorded one win, one draw, and three defeats so far this season, leaving them in need of a turnaround as the campaign progresses.
