Turkish club Akhisarspor fall for Nigerian ghost player
Turkish Super Lig side Akhisarspor received the ultimate shock when they discovered that the Nigerian they signed during the last transfer window was not a footballer. The person in question, a 20 year old Martins Chisom Onyebueke claimed he was a midfielder.
The club requested for his details from the Nigerian Football Federation in January, but the Federation had no records of him whatsoever. He received a special license of “transition to professionalism without being an amateur” to play in the club but has never so much as made the bench in the club’s 13 matches since his arrival.
The club’s president, Evren Ozbey complained to the Turkish Football Federation about the development. Former Super Eagles midfielder Raheem Lawal and striker, Peter Nsima are bonafide players of the club.
