U-17 AFCON: Nigerian blood Micheal Dokunmu fires South Africa to victory over Zambia
Nigerian blood Micheal Dokunmu scored the match winner for South Africa in their second group B match of the U-17 AFCON vs Zambia on Wednesday May 3.
With scores level at 2-2 , Dokunmu struck to win all three points for South Africa at the Stade Mohammed Hamaloui in Constantine.
Born to Nigerian parents in South Africa, Michael Dokumnu, was a menace all evening for the COSAFA U-17 champions, and crowned his performance with an important goal, showing excellent composure inside the area before firing the ball beyond Zambian goalkeeper Shadrick Kalayt.
South Africa were 2-goals up inside 31 minutes courtesy of a Vicky Mkhawana brace but the Zambians clawed back through Emmanuel Mawanza`s goals either side of the break for 2-2.
Both teams toiled in search of a winner to revive their 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign following defeats in the hand of Morocco and Nigeria respectively.
Viteese U-19 midfielder produced a superb strike to win the match 3-2 for South Africa. The dreadlocked youngster will now face his fatherland Nigeria in the final group B game knowing a win will guarantee automatic knock-out stage spot for his adopted country in Algeria.
That game will take place on Saturday May 6, 2023 at the Stade Mohamed Hamaloui, Constantine.
After two matches, Morocco occupy top-spot in group B with six points following a 1-0 win over second placed Nigeria on Wednesday.
Nigeria are second with three points same as South Africa while Zambia are bottom with no points.
