U-20 AFCON Preparatory Game: Nigeria drown Ivory Coast In Abidjan
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles won 2-0 against Ivory Coast’s Young Elephants in a friendly match before the Africa Cup of Nations. The game took place at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny on Wednesday evening.
Captain Daniel Bameyi and Divine Oliseh, a striker for Foster Academy, scored the goals in the second half after the first half ended 0-0.
Bameyi gave Nigeria the lead with a penalty, confidently placing the ball into the bottom right corner.
Ivory Coast tried to get back into the game in front of their home crowd, but Oliseh sealed Nigeria’s win by scoring a second goal with just eight minutes left.
This win is a big boost for the Flying Eagles, who are getting ready for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
The second friendly match will be held on Friday at 3:30 PM local time (4:30 PM Nigeria time) at the same stadium.
Nigeria qualified for the U-20 Afcon by winning the WAFU Zone B championship in Togo in 2024, beating Ghana 2-1 in the final.
The Flying Eagles have been placed in a tough group with Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa.
Head coach Aliyu Zubairu will be happy with the team’s performance and hopes they keep up the good work to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
