U17 World Cup: Eaglets Win Six Goals Thriller In Opener
The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have kick started their 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup campaign on a winning note with a 4-2 defeat of Hungary on Saturday night at the Estadio Olympico, Goiania.
Gyorgy Komaromi gave Hungary the lead inside three minutes as he poked home in the area after the Nigerian defence was caught flat footed.
The Eaglets however restored parity when captain Samson Tijani levelled for Nigeria from the penalty spot.
Not to be deterred, Hungary were back in front through Samuel Major with a well taken goal that punished some awful defending by the Nigerians.
Two goals in two minutes saw Nigeria turn the game on its head when Ibrahim Usman headed home Sa’ad’s corner to level, before Oluwatimilehin Adeniyi headed home at the far post ten minutes before regulation time.
There was enough time for Samson Tijani to get his brace on the night with a deflected free kick as Manu Garba side ran out 4-2 winners.
Nigeria will next play Ecuador on Tuesday, 9pm in their second group stage match.
