#U20AFCON: Flying Eagles soar past Young Pharaohs to go 2nd in Group A
To play Mozambique in the last Group Game
Nigeria men’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles have beaten the Young Pharaohs of Egypt in their second game at the ongoing Africa U-20 Championship in Cairo.
Solomon Agbalaka scored the only goal of the game in the second half to help the Flying Eagles overcome the disappointment of losing 1-0 in the first group game to Senegal U-20.
A tough game was predicted against the hosts, Egypt U-20, and it was an intense battle between the Flying Eagles and the Young Pharaohs.
There was not too much to separate both sides and when it looks like the hosts were going to get their second draw at the tournament, Solomon Agbalaka came through.
The left-back headed into the net in the 71st minute from Aminu Mohammed’s corner kick to hand the Flying Eagles the much-needed win and three points.
Earlier in the day, Senegal confirmed their place in the next round after trashing Mozambique 3-0, the result which push Nigeria U-20 to the 2nd spot.
With three points in two games, Flying Eagles need to win against Mozambique to avoid any stories.
Although they could still qualify as one of the two best losers even if they lose to Mozambique and Egypt beat Senegal.
Flying Eagles will also qualify if they draw against Mozambique and Senegal U-20 and beat Egypt U-20 in their tie, but to avoid any eventualities they need to go all out and win their next game.
The last group games will be played simultaneously on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 6 pm Nigerian time.
