Ubong Friday the hero as Akwa United compound Heartland FC woes

Ubong Friday was the star of the game for Akwa United FC in their Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 34, 2-0 victory against Heartland FC at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Both teams started the game in the drop zone and were desperate for points to save their season.

Akwa United FC was the most purposeful from kickoff, taking the game to their almost-relegated opponents in front of their cheering supporters.

The first half saw Akwa United valiantly search for the all-important opening goal but the trio of Ubong Friday, Sani Suleiman, and Edidiong Ezekiel could not find a way past the Heartland FC defense in a goalless half.

The second half saw the Promise Keepers applying more pressure so it was no surprise when experienced forward, Ubong Friday turned a defender inside the penalty area before firing home the opening goal.

Few minutes after his goal, Ubong Friday was responsible for the second goal when his pass intended for Sani Suleiman was turned home by an opposition defender to give Akwa United a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The rest of the match saw both team cancel each others attempts, leaving Coach Babaganaru tutored Akwa United taking maximum points to climb out of the relegation zone.

With four games to the end of the 2023/2024 NPFL season, Akwa United occupy 14th spot with 43 points.
