Uganda Recall Veteran Goalkeeper Dennis Onyango for 2025 AFCON

Uganda have brought back their legendary goalkeeper Dennis Onyango to the national team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, creating both surprise and excitement among fans.

The 40-year-old, who previously starred for Mamelodi Sundowns, has been asked to rejoin the Cranes as they prepare for the tournament in Morocco. His return is seen as a major boost, as he offers great experience, calmness, and strong leadership.

Onyango, a CAF Champions League winner and an important player for both club and country for many years, is widely regarded as one of Africa’s best goalkeepers. His recall shows Uganda’s wish to have a dependable and steady figure in goal.

If he plays in the competition, Onyango could become the oldest footballer at the 2025 AFCON, adding another achievement to his impressive career.

Uganda will meet Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the group stage, setting up an interesting clash between Uganda’s experience and Nigeria’s youthful energy.
