Umar Sadiq Nominated for LaLiga Player and Goal of the Month Awards

Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has been nominated for both LaLiga’s Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for March, following his impressive form with Valencia.

The tall forward joined Valencia on loan from Real Sociedad and has quickly become an important player for Rubén Baraja’s team. He has scored key goals and helped the club improve their results.

Since arriving at the Mestalla Stadium, the 27-year-old has scored four goals in eight league matches. He has impressed with his ability to link up play and make decisive contributions for his team.

To win the Player of the Month award, Sadiq will have to beat top players like Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid), Isco (Real Betis), Marcos Alonso (Celta Vigo), and Pedro Díaz (Rayo Vallecano).

In March, Sadiq scored three goals, the same number as Mbappé. Isco and Alonso scored two goals each, while Díaz scored one.

Sadiq’s nominated goal was a brilliant backheel equaliser in Valencia’s 3-3 draw with Osasuna. In the 87th minute, he connected with Sergi Canós’ low cross and flicked the ball past goalkeeper Sergio Herrera.

He is also competing for the Goal of the Month award against Andrei Ratiu and Diego Garcia, who also scored stunning goals in March.

While waiting for the LaLiga award results, Sadiq is now focused on Nigeria’s important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Friday. With the Super Eagles struggling, his good form and confidence could help Nigeria get their campaign back on track.
