Umeh, Akognon and Diogu star as Nigeria beat Croatia 90-76 to keep hopes alive
Micheal Umeh scored 19 pionts, Josh Akognon dropped 18 points and Ike Diogu hit the double with 10 points, 12 rebounds to help Nigeria’s D’Tigers beat Croatia 90-76 in Rio Mens’ basketball event.
The victory over the European super power who have already defeated Spain and Brazil means Nigeria still have hopes of making it to the quarter-finals.
A victory for Nigeria over Brazil on Monday, and Lithuania beating Croatia will qualify them for the quarter-finals, making them the first Africans to get that far.
This is Nigeria’s second ever win at the Olympic Games, with the first coming against Tunisia four years ago in London.
