Unwanted history for ten Hag as Manchester United bow to Crystal Palace at home

Manchester United secured their worst start to a league season since 1989 after Crystal Palace defeated them 1-0 at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have now lost four of their seven games to start the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Erik ten Hag led his team out at Old Trafford as they looked to avoid consecutive home league defeats. They had defeated Crystal Palace in midweek when they faced each other in the Carabao Cup third round.

Manchester United were without a number of key players, including Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Sergio Reguilon, who recently picked up injuries.

Crystal Palace took a shock lead in the 25th minute when Joachim Andersen lashed home a volley from inside the box after a free-kick from Eberechi Eze was half-cleared to him.

Manchester United huffed and puffed but could not find an equaliser for the remainder of the game, as the Eagles held firm for massive three points.

Crystal Palace held on to defeat the Red Devils, ensuring that they have now recorded their worst start to a league season since 1989, when they finished 13th under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Experienced manager Roy Hodgson made history as he became the first manager in Premier League history to avoid defeat in five successive league games at Old Trafford.
