USA Defeats Canada in Basketball Exhibition Ahead of Olympics
Team USA started their road to the Paris Olympics with a victory over Canada, winning 86-72 in an intense exhibition match at the T-Mobile Arena.
Anthony Edwards led the American team with 13 points, followed by Stephen Curry with 12. Jrue Holiday contributed 11 points, and Anthony Davis added 10.
The match was part of the USA Basketball Showcase, a series of games preparing the team for the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
Slow Start and Strong Finish
The game began with Team USA struggling to find their rhythm, falling behind 11-1 midway through the first quarter after missing their initial six shots.
However, the team quickly recovered, finishing the first half on a high note by outscoring Canada 40-22. By halftime, the Americans had a 41-33 lead and extended this lead to 69-54 by the end of the third quarter.
Key Performances
Canada’s RJ Barrett scored 12 points, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks each added 10 points. Despite their efforts, Team USA’s defensive pressure and balanced scoring proved too much for Canada to handle.
Mikal Bridges played a crucial role, tying the game with a three-pointer in the final seconds of regulation, forcing the game into overtime.
Celebrating the Game
The match drew significant attention, with President Barack Obama and numerous NBA coaches and dignitaries in attendance to celebrate USA Basketball’s 50th anniversary.
Notable figures such as Jerry Colangelo, Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Dawn Staley, and Lisa Leslie were present, among others. The total attendance of 20,757 set a record for T-Mobile Arena.
