Ruth Usoro set a new Nigerian Triple Jump Record of 14.28m at the Texas Tech Corky Classic on Saturday evening. It was her first of the year and it put her joint-top with Skvartsova Viyaleta on the World Rankings in the event this season.
The 23 year old US-based athlete was officially adopted by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria in February 2020. She has won laurels in 100m, 200m and triple jump events. Her jump yesterday ensured that she reached number 2 in the all-time US collegiate triple jump history, behind only Keturah Orji. It also set a new school record at her school.
Her jump eclipsed the record of 14.21m set in July 2007 by Chinoye Ohaduga in Algiers. She also recorded a jump of 6.51m in the long jump to create a new meet record.
