Valentin Vacherot makes history in Monte Carlo
Valentin Vacherot has become the first man from Monaco to reach the Monte Carlo semifinals.
The 25-year-old continued his run with a win over Hubert Hurkacz, marking his second top-10 victory of the week.
Just a year ago, Vacherot was ranked outside the top 200. Now, he is set to rise to world No. 17.
After the match, he spoke about what drives his game:
“Of course. Physicality is one of my weapons. I love long matches. The longer it goes the more confidence I have and the more I want to win.”
He also thanked those around him:
“Also thanks to all my friends and family and everyone.. all the members from the club around the court.”
Reaching the semifinals, Vacherot reflected on the moment:
“That sounds amazing. That sounds amazing. It’s such an honor for me to be part of the semifinals around the 3 best players of the last few years. I just can’t wait for tomorrow and to have the chance to play Carlos in my hometown, it’s amazing.”
Playing at home made it even more special:
“All the guys up there chanting, those are all my best friends since I was 9, 10, 11, 12 years old. High school. Middle school with them.”
“It’s rare… for a player to have this chance to have that many people around. All the members of the club sitting all around here in the boxes. I can name probably a thousand faces on the crowd. I’m just so lucky to have a tournament in my club.”
