Valverde, and Blanc top NFF 4-man oyinbo coach shortlist for Super Eagles

Former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain managers are said to be amongst the four-man oyinbo coach shortlist for Super Eagles.

The Nigeria Football Federation is said to have come up with a five-man shortlist for the post of vacant Super Eagles head coach role.

Since Gernot Rohr was fired in December, Austin Eguavoen the technical director was appointed the interim coach to AFCON 2021.

The former Super Eagles captain was also the manager who failed to lead Nigeria past Ghana for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

And now, the NFF is said to be ready to appoint an oyinbo coach who will lead Nigeria to the next level.

The names on the shortlist according to reports are former Barcelona and Manchester United player Laurent Blanc, former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde.

Philip Cocu and Jose Peseiro who was very close to becoming Eagles coach are the other names said to be on the list.

While Jose Peseiro, and Philip Cocu, are said to be willing to accept NFF’s offer and very open to the role, Ernesto Valverde and Laurent Blanc could prove a difficult deal to strike.

According to the report, Ernesto Valverde, and Laurent Blanc would want more money than the current budget for them to accept the Super Eagles job.

While other sources reported that Laurent Blanc who reportedly applied for the vacant role is leading the race to become the next Super Eagles coach.
