Van der Sar urges Manchester United to show patience with Onana

Andre Onana’s time at Manchester United has been full of ups and downs, but club legend Edwin van der Sar is asking fans and officials to remain patient with the goalkeeper.

The Cameroonian has come under pressure after two difficult seasons, but Van der Sar believes that, with time and support, Onana can still become a top Premier League goalkeeper.

“Trust the process,” says Van der Sar

Edwin van der Sar, one of United’s greatest ever goalkeepers, has spoken out in defence of Onana.

The Dutchman, who worked closely with Onana at Ajax, praised the 29-year-old’s talent, mental strength, and potential.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Van der Sar recalled Onana’s journey from Barcelona’s youth team to reaching the Champions League final with Inter Milan before joining Manchester United.

Although Onana has struggled to adapt fully to the Premier League, Van der Sar remains confident.

“Give him confidence and time, and I’m sure next season United will have one of the best goalkeepers in the league,” he said.

Mixed opinions at Manchester United

Inside the club, there are different views about Onana’s future.

Some, including possible new manager Ruben Amorim, are reportedly interested in signing a new goalkeeper, with FC Porto’s Diogo Costa seen as a top target.

Others believe Onana’s struggles are more mental than technical and feel it’s too early to give up on him.

Onana was signed for £47.2 million and is contracted until 2028. Despite interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, Manchester United are not in a hurry to sell.

For now, Onana stays a United player, but his future may depend on how much longer the club is willing to wait for him to prove he can replace David De Gea.
