Venus Williams Gets Another Chance at the 2025 U.S. Open

Venus Williams’s time at the 2025 U.S. Open is not over, even though she lost her first-round match in the women’s singles on Monday night. She was beaten in three sets by the world number 13, Karolína Muchová.
On Tuesday evening, it was announced that Williams has received a wild card to play in the women’s doubles. She will be playing with Canadian Leylah Fernandez. In their first match, they will face the number 6 team. Ellen Perez from Australia and Lyudmyla Kichenok from Ukraine.
Williams is a 14-time Grand Slam champion in women’s doubles. She won the U.S. Open doubles title in 1999 and 2009, both times with her sister, Serena Williams. The sisters won all 14 of their major doubles titles together. The last time they played doubles was at the 2022 U.S. Open, before Serena retired from tennis.
Although it may feel strange to see Venus play with someone other than her sister, fans will be happy that her U.S. Open journey continues. This is her 25th time playing at the tournament, and her first since the 2023 season.
