Verstappen losing sleep ahead of Red Bull debut
Max Verstappen admits the prospect of making his Red Bull debut at the Spanish Grand Prix has given him sleepless nights.
Verstappen was promoted from Red Bull’s sister team Toro Rosso after the last race in Russia, the 18-year-old swapping seats – and teams – with Daniil Kvyat.
The start to 2016 has been promising for Verstappen with points finishes in the opening three races for Toro Rosso, although a retirement in Russia blotted his copy book.
Sunday’s race in Barcelona provides a new challenge for the youngster with a new team and a new car to get to grips with, something he is ready to get stuck into.
“To be honest, I think I haven’t slept for three nights,” he told Ziggo Sport.
“I was very motivated to go directly to the team, because you know it is a top team where you have a better chance to reach the podium.
“When I got there, I actually couldn’t stop. Lots of simulator work and spending as much time with the team as possible.
“[The pressure] doesn’t change, you always try to do your best. Whether that is in a bit less competitive car or a better one, that doesn’t change.”
