Victor Boniface Asks Nigerians for Patience After Ending Goal Drought for Leverkusen
Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has pleaded with fans for patience after scoring in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-1 win over Bochum on Friday night, just days after another goalless outing for the Super Eagles.
Boniface, who has struggled to find the net for Nigeria in recent matches, took to Instagram to address growing criticism, posting: “9ja plz be patient with me, the goal will come.”
The 24-year-old scored his first goal in seven matches, tapping in from close range to help Leverkusen secure three vital points in their Bundesliga title chase. However, his struggles with the Super Eagles continued during Nigeria’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, where he failed to score.
Despite his impressive club form—netting 11 goals in 24 appearances this season—Boniface has yet to score a competitive goal for Nigeria since making his debut in 2023. Many fans are frustrated, questioning why his performances in Europe have not translated to international success.
While some supporters may sympathise with Boniface’s struggles, others expect immediate results from a player thriving in one of Europe’s top leagues. As Leverkusen push for another Bundesliga title, all eyes will be on whether he can finally deliver for Nigeria in upcoming matches.
