Victor Boniface Commits to Bayer Leverkusen Amid Transfer Rumours

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has confirmed that he is staying at the club, putting an end to rumours about a possible transfer.

In an interview with German outlet Bild, the 24-year-old Nigerian forward said he is fully focused on winning trophies and helping the Bundesliga runners-up have a successful season under new head coach Erik ten Hag.

“Absolutely, my future is here. From my side, it’s 100 percent clear that I’m staying,” Boniface said.

“I have three years left on my contract. I want to win titles with Bayer and have a great season.”

Boniface had been linked with moves to AC Milan, Galatasaray, and Saudi club Al-Nassr. A deal with Al-Nassr fell through in the winter after they chose Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán instead.

Reacting to the failed transfer, Boniface said, “It is what it is. The transfer didn’t happen, I’m still here.”

He also dismissed interest from AC Milan, saying:

“Even when things weren’t going so well for me last season, I spoke to [sporting director] Simon Rolfes and told him: I love it here.”

Boniface is now preparing for a strong pre-season to be fully fit for the new campaign. His decision to stay is a big boost for Leverkusen, who have already lost key players like Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, and Jeremie Frimpong this summer.

The club is undergoing a squad rebuild under ten Hag following Xabi Alonso’s successful spell, which saw them win the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.
