Victor Boniface destroys West Ham in friendly match

Nigerian striker delivers terrific performance in Bayer Leverkusen win

Victor Boniface was on fire for Bayer Leverkusen as they thrashed West Ham 4-0 in their preseason friendly match at the BayArena.

New Bayer Leverkusen signing Boniface was tasked with leading the line for Xabi Alonso’s side against the Hammers, and his pace and physicality was too much for the English side to deal with.

Inside the first eight minutes, the 22-year-old was fouled in the Hammers’ half resulting in a free-kick. The free-kick was taken by Jonas Hofmann, and the ball nestled in the back of the net as the Germans opened the scoring.

Midway through the first half, Bayer Leverkusen doubled their advantage when Boniface forced Thilo Kehrer to concede an own goal following a low cross from Amine Adli.

Boniface added his name to the scoresheet in the 37th minute when he latched onto a clipped through ball from Florian Wirtz before firing a half-volley across the despairing goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

In the 70th minute, the impressive Boniface won his side a penalty after he was hacked down in the box. Robert Andrich stepped up to fire home and round off the scoring for the German side.

Boniface lasted just 77 minutes before he was replaced by Odilon Kossounou, brought on to beef the defence.
