Victor Boniface returns to training after Injury layoff
Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, has resumed training after spending the last two-months on the treatment table due to injury sustained on international duty in January 2024.
Victor Boniface sustained the injury while with the Super Eagles camp ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, subsequently ruling him out of the tournament and requiring surgery for correction.
After completing his rehabilitation, Boniface resumed training on Saturday morning and is expected to fully join the team’s training sessions next week.
Leverkusen took to Instagram on Saturday to share an update on Boniface’s recovery, accompanied by photos of the striker involved in some training drills.
“A step by step journey! Good to see you on the pitch!” the Bundesliga outfit posted on the photo-sharing platform, including photos of the Nigeria international running alongside a club physiotherapist, as he gradually works to regain full fitness.
Victor Boniface was on a fine run of form in the German top flight, where he had 10 goals and seven assists to his name, before his unfortunate injury.
Leverkusen’s medical team have confirmed that the Nigerian international will be ready for competitive action by March 30th.
On Friday, Bayer Leverkusen head coach, Xabi Alonso expressed optimism about the injury return date for the Nigerian internation who has reumed running and other stretching excercises.
“They are currently working hard, ambitiously and professionally on their comebacks. Things are going in the right direction,” Alonso had said before Thursday’s Europa League win over Qarabag.
