Victor Boniface scores twice as Bayer Leverkusen down Hoffeinheim
Nigerian international Victor Boniface delivered a standout performance, scoring twice to lead Bayer Leverkusen to a convincing 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday.
Leverkusen took control early at Hoffenheim’s home ground. In the 17th minute, Martin Terrier’s goal, initially ruled offside, was awarded after a VAR review, with Boniface providing the crucial assist to put Leverkusen ahead 1-0.
Boniface extended the lead in the 30th minute with a brilliant solo goal. Displaying incredible footwork inside the box, he outsmarted Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Hoffenheim had a brief moment of hope when Mergim Berisha found the back of the net in the 38th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Despite Hoffenheim’s attempts, Leverkusen remained dominant throughout the first half.
Just before the break, Boniface almost scored again, but his low shot was well-saved by Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.
The second half continued with more drama. Bayer Leverkusen was awarded a penalty in the 71st minute after a VAR review, and Florian Wirtz converted it to make it 3-1.
Boniface capped off his spectacular performance by scoring his second goal in the 76th minute. With another stunning individual effort, he struck a low shot from inside the box, sealing a 4-1 victory for Leverkusen.
Boniface’s brace helped maintain Leverkusen’s strong form as they continued their push for the Bundesliga title.
