Victor Ikpeba backs new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle

Former Super Eagles star Victor Ikpeba has urged Nigerian football fans to fully support Eric Chelle, the newly appointed head coach of the national team.

Ikpeba believes that the team’s success under Chelle will depend on the support of all Nigerians as they enter an important phase, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

While Chelle’s appointment has received mixed reactions, Ikpeba, a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee, is not concerned by the debates. He explained that the appointment of a coach for the Super Eagles always sparks strong opinions because of the national team’s importance.

Ikpeba said, “Even if we had appointed Pep Guardiola, there would still be complaints. If there are no arguments, there won’t be success.”

He emphasized that fans need to unite and support Chelle as Nigeria aims for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

“The decision has been made, and we must support it,” Ikpeba added. “Eric Chelle is a young coach, and with our support, he will succeed.”

Ikpeba also stressed that Nigeria is in a difficult position in the World Cup qualifiers and that supporting Chelle will help bring the best out of the players.

Chelle, 47, is expected to arrive in Nigeria soon to sign a two-year contract with the NFF. His appointment marks a crucial moment for the Super Eagles, as they face tough competition to qualify for the World Cup and regain their place among the top teams in the world.
