Victor Ikpeba challenges Super Eagles to fight for 2026 World Cup qualification
Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has urged the Super Eagles players to intensify their efforts to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team has had a difficult start to their campaign, failing to secure a win in four matches.
Currently, under coach Finidi George, the Super Eagles are in fifth place in Group C with only three points from four games.
Nigeria’s loss to Benin has left the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in tatters.
This may not have sounded a death knell to their hopes of qualifying, with six games still to play, but it is tough to see them making much headway without a significant turnaround in performances.
The Super Eagles must now win all six of their remaining games to guarantee themselves a place at the World Cup.

Ikpeba, who played for Nigeria in two World Cups, pointed out the need for players to improve their performance. “The players have become too comfortable, they now have to step up and take full responsibility,” he told SCORENigeria.
He believes the team has the talent needed to turn their fortunes around. “The talent is there in the team for them to turn things around next year. History will be kind to them when they fight back and qualify Nigeria.”
Ikpeba also reminded the players of the importance of the World Cup, highlighting Nigeria’s absence from the 2022 tournament in Qatar. “We missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and it was a special tournament.”
Ikpeba’s call to action comes as the Super Eagles face a critical period in their quest for World Cup qualification.
