Victor Osimhen clarifies controversial Napoli situation after winning CAF Award
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, recently named the African Player of the Year, has addressed the controversy surrounding a TikTok video after his penalty miss vs Bologna earlier in the season.
Osimhen clarified the situation during a media interaction after receiving the prestigious CAF Men’s Player of the year award, saying he was not happy with the video but received enough support from the club after the “stupid error”.
“I must clarify something,” Osimhen began.
“I was not treated badly by Napoli or De Laurentiis. I’m sorry to say this word, but it was a stupid error from somebody who thought he could use a thing like that to joke at a crucial moment.”
The Nigerian striker expressed that despite the unfortunate incident, he received support from Napoli’s management, including Aurelio De Laurentiis and his son Edoardo. Osimhen emphasized that the matter was a result of an individual’s error and not reflective of the club’s stance.

“I was certainly not happy, but De Laurentiis, his son Edoardo, and many at the club have supported me,” Osimhen clarified. “They explained the situation, and even the person responsible for it was really nice to me. That was the most important thing. I spoke to that person, and he proved to be deeply sorry. Everything has been solved, so I am happy with them. Now I look to the future to leave it behind. This story belongs to the past.”
Victor Osimhen, who has been a key player for Napoli, scoring seven goals in 14 appearances for the Serie A champions, expressed his gratitude for the support he received and is now focused on moving forward.
The clarification from Osimhen puts an end to the recent controversy, allowing both the player and the club to focus on their footballing objectives.
On Tuesday night, Osimhen scored one of the goals as Napoli defeated Braga 2-0 to book a UEFA Champions League roung of 16 spot.
