Victor Osimhen Could Be Named Super Eagles Assistant Captain

There are strong moves for Victor Osimhen to be named one of the assistant captains of the Super Eagles, according to the latest reports from the Super Eagles camp per SCORENIGERIA.

William Troost-Ekong is now the main captain of the team under new coach Eric Chelle. Ekong had already worn the armband in the absence of long-time skipper Ahmed Musa, who holds the record for most appearances.

Moses Simon, who plays for FC Nantes, is already an assistant captain because of his experience in the squad. Kenneth Omeruo was also one of the assistants, but he has not been involved with the team since the 2023 AFCON due to injury and limited playing time at his club in Turkey.

Osimhen, who made his debut for Nigeria in June 2017, is now one of the senior players. He has shown leadership since Eric Chelle became coach of the team.

During the camp in Rwanda, Osimhen was one of the first players to arrive. He has also warned his teammates that the new coach will be “very, very demanding” after having a chat with him recently.

A team official told SCORENigeria: “The new coach is counting a lot on Osimhen because he believes he can help keep the rest of the players focused and united.

“There is already a strong bond between the coach and Osimhen. They are both fighters.”

Even without an official title, Osimhen has already become one of the team’s leaders. He speaks up in the dressing room, has a good relationship with the NFF officials, and is always committed to playing for Nigeria.
