Victor Osimhen earns high praise for Galatasaray impact
Galatasaray are gearing up for an important match against their Istanbul rivals, Fenerbahçe, at Rams Park on Monday. Club insider Mehmet Özcan has praised Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for his major contribution to the team this season.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli last summer and has been a standout player in the Turkish Super Lig. He has scored 20 goals and provided 5 assists in 25 games across all competitions, becoming a key player in the team’s push for the title.
His performances have been vital in keeping Galatasaray at the top of the league. The defending champions are currently leading with 63 points from 23 games, six points ahead of second-place Fenerbahçe.
Speaking on the Spor Alles YouTube channel, Özcan recognised Osimhen’s importance and suggested that the striker may leave at the end of the season.
“Osimhen will play his last Fenerbahçe derby. I don’t think he will stay at Galatasaray next season,” Özcan said.
Özcan added that Osimhen would be extra motivated in what could be his final derby against Fenerbahçe.
“He wants to finish his time at Galatasaray with a goal against Fenerbahçe. He will be highly motivated. If Galatasaray are still at the top, they owe a lot to Osimhen.”
The 26-year-old will look to maintain his strong form and help Galatasaray secure a crucial win against their rivals.
In addition to his club duties, Osimhen is also focused on Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March, where he will be key in the Super Eagles’ push for a place in the global tournament.
