Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has it picked up where he left it last season.
The former Liverpool striker came from the bench to score his sides only goal in Nottingham Forest 2-1 opener loss to Arsenal.
Despite only having 19 minutes of playtime, his presence was felt as he notched his team’s sole goal in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Awoniyi, who played a pivotal role in Nottingham Forest escaping relegation from Premier League last campaign, displayed his class and determination.
Coincidentally celebrating his 26th birthday on the same day, he delivered a memorable performance by scoring a remarkable goal shortly after stepping onto the pitch to replace an injured teammate.
Another Nigerian compatriot, Ola Aina, also contributed to the match, but it was Arsenal who emerged victorious after a hard-fought contest at the Emirates Stadium.
While Arsenal secured a narrow win, Awoniyi’s birthday goal provided a glimmer of hope for his team and fans alike.
