Warriors 118-114 Mavericks: Steph Curry spoils ‘return party’ for Klay Thompson
Stephen Curry delivered a stellar performance, scoring 37 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 120-117 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Cup.
This matchup marked the return of Klay Thompson to the Chase Center, where Curry played a pivotal role in securing the win.
Curry was unstoppable down the stretch, registering the Warriors’ final 12 points, which included a crucial three-pointer that put Golden State ahead at 118-114. His strong start to the season continued with this impressive showing.
Thompson, returning to the Bay Area after a 13-season tenure with the Warriors to join the Mavericks last summer, contributed 22 points in his first game back. Curry reflected on the unique experience of competing against his longtime teammate.
“We went over our pre-game scout and the match-ups,” Curry shared. “It was almost surreal saying, ‘Steph, you got Klay.'” Thompson, a five-time NBA All-Star, acknowledged the challenge of facing Curry, noting his exceptional late-game scoring ability.
“It hurts to be on the other side of one of his flurries. Steph got hot at the end,” Thompson said. In other NBA action, the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 122-108, while the Milwaukee Bucks secured a 99-85 win over the Toronto Raptors. The NBA Cup format includes an initial split group stage followed by single-elimination knockout rounds.
