Warriors welcome head coach Steve Kerr back for Spurs trip

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will make the trip to San Antonio for game three of the Western Conference finals.

Kerr has not coached since the Warriors’ first NBA playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers due to chronic back pain.

He re-joined the Warriors for the first two games of the Western Conference finals at Oracle Arena, talking to his players and the media and watching games from the locker room. He even attended practice before Tuesday’s 136-100 game-two victory.

Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers confirmed that Kerr will travel with the team, and he came to the decision on his own.

“It’s great, we all respect him so much that we let him make those decisions,” Myers told 97.5 The Game on Wednesday.

“I asked him what he was thinking, and he said he was ready to go. If we sensed he was harming himself by doing so we would have stepped in. But Steve is smart.”

With that being said, Myers made it clear Kerr is still not ready to coach.

“He’s doing what he can,” Myers said of Kerr. “It is all encouraging, but I can’t sit here and say he’s over any kind of hump. He wouldn’t say that. But the more he’s around, the better we are.”

Acting coach Mike Brown will continue to fill in while Kerr recovers, with the Warriors leading 2-0
