Watch Video: Rising Star Godwin Bazama Explains Why It Is Difficult to Combine Education and Football

Young football talent, Godwin Bazama, has shared his thoughts on the challenges of balancing education and football during Thepeoples4cast session at the camp of Blessed Stars Football Academy, Uyo. The discussion, hosted by Nsikakabasi Akpan, provided insight into the struggles many aspiring footballers face in trying to pursue both academics and sports.

Bazama, a promising right-back who looks up to Chelsea captain Reece James, explained that football requires full dedication.

“As a footballer, you need to train. Going to school is like leaving football because of the time. If you stop playing for a while, you will need months to regain fitness. And if you are not fit, you cannot play. So, to become a professional footballer, you have to set education aside,” he said.

When asked if sacrifices could be made to balance both pursuits, Bazama admitted that while some players manage to do it, he personally finds it unrealistic.

“Many footballers are doing it, but I don’t think there is enough time. Education is important, but most parents don’t understand that footballers need to train and work hard to succeed,” he added.

Born and raised in the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, Abia State, Bazama acknowledged that he has received full support from his parents in his dream to become a professional footballer. He currently plays for the high-flying Blessed Stars Academy, Uyo, an academy renowned for producing players for Nigeria’s U-17 and U-20 national teams.

As he continues his journey in football, Bazama remains focused on making a name for himself in the sport.
