“We are Delighted to Host you” – A’Ibom Governor Welcomes Athletes and Officials to Uyo for South-South National Youth Games Elimination
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has warmly welcomed athletes and officials from across the South-South to Uyo for the zonal elimination of the 9th National Youth Games.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the Governor charged all participants to show discipline and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
He assured that the State has put in place all necessary logistics to ensure a successful and hitch-free tournament.
“Akwa Ibom is delighted to host you,” Governor Eno said. “We welcome you to our state and encourage you to be of good conduct as you compete. The government has made every arrangement to give you the best experience, and we look forward to an excellent outing.”
The Governor further emphasised the role of sports in promoting unity and youth development, describing the Games as an opportunity for young people to showcase their talent on a bigger stage.
At the time of this report, screening of athletes is currently underway at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, as the journey to the National Finals officially begins.
The South-South elimination officially begins today in Uyo, with contingents from the six states of the region set to compete in various sports for places at the National Finals in Asaba, Delta State, from 29 August to 6 September.
