‘We are not happy’ – Fidelis Ilechukwu reacts to Rangers home loss against Ahmed Musa inspired Kano Pillars

Super Eagles assistant coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has shared his disappointment after Rangers suffered a 4-3 defeat to Kano Pillars, led by Nigerian football legend Ahmed Musa, in Wednesday’s Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) match.

This defeat was Rangers’ first home loss of the season at their iconic Cathedral stadium.

In his post-match interview, Ilechukwu admitted the result was tough for the team.

“Yes, these things happen in football. We are not happy,” he said. “I am not happy either, but that’s part of the game.”

He acknowledged that Kano Pillars played better in the first half but felt encouraged by Rangers’ fight in the second half, where they finally ended their scoring struggles.

“Today, we scored three goals, and that gives us hope,” Ilechukwu added.

Ahmed Musa, a former Al Nassr star, was unstoppable in the first half, contributing to all four goals for Kano Pillars. He dribbled past four defenders to score one goal, assisted another, and won two penalties converted by Rabiu Ali. By halftime, Rangers were trailing 4-0.

Rangers showed great effort in the second half, with Isaac Savior scoring twice and Silas Nenrot adding a third goal late in the match, but it wasn’t enough to secure a comeback.

Ilechukwu stressed that Rangers must improve their finishing to avoid similar setbacks. He also apologised to the fans who supported the team in the rain.

“We will make it up to them,” he promised.

Despite the setback, Ilechukwu remains hopeful that Rangers can build on their improved performance and get back to winning ways in the league.
