“We want to bring our fans back to our side” – Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen speaks ahead of Sierra Leone game
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed the team holds a desire to win the game Vs Sierra Leone and bring their Nigerian fans back on their side.
In-form Victor Osimhen is one of 23-Eagles in camp preparing for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier vs Sierra Leone on June 18.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a disappointment Osimhen reckons caused a disconnection between the Eagles and heartbroken Nigerian fans.
With a chance to seal qualification for the 2023 Cup of Nations vs Sierra Leone, the Italian Serie A top-scorer the Eagles will get the job done to win the hearts of their fans again.
As quoted by Brila, Osimhen said ” We want to bring our fans back to our side because we know they are understandably disappointed.
“It was disheartening for us when we couldn’t qualify for the World Cup. ”
“We had online abuses. Now it’s behind us but the memories still linger. We will do our best to earn their trust,” the 24-year old Napoli striker promised.
Nigeria’s opponents for the penultimate 2023 AFCON qualifying game Sierra Leone are condemned to win or miss-out of the competition.
John Keister and his Leone stars understand the task at hand and so Osimhen is expecting a tough game at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia on Sunday June 18.
” We don’t want obstacles on our ways, ” Osimhen added.
” We have a game on Sunday to qualify which won’t be easy,”
“But we got the quality to execute it. A new coach came on with new strategies but we have to achieve our collective goals and be objective. ” he said.
As things stand in group A, Nigeria occupy second spot with nine points behind Guinea-Bissau whose 0-1 win over bottom placed Sao Tome and Principe on Wednesday took their tally to ten points.
Sierra Leone are third on the standings with five points and in danger of missing the Ivory Coast 2023 Africa Cup of Nations if they fail to win vs Nigeria.
