‘We want to make Nigerians proud’ – Interim Super Eagles coach Finidi George declares
Finidi George has expressed his determination to take the upcoming friendly games against Ghana and Mali seriously as he steps in to handle the Super Eagles.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the appointment of the former Ajax Amsterdam forward as the interim coach for the upcoming fixtures against the Black Stars and the Eagles.
With the Super Eagles currently without a substantive coach following JosĂ© Peseiro’s departure, George, who was part of Peseiro’s coaching staff, has been tasked with leading the team for the friendlies.
Speaking about his new role, the 52-year-old emphasised the importance of taking the responsibility seriously and ensuring that the team performs to the best of their abilities.
“Definitely as a coach, there is responsibility but that is what we do. We have to be calm, do your job and ensure you do it properly,” Finidi remarked after the Super Eagles’ first workout on Tuesday evening.
Acknowledging the scrutiny from Nigerian fans, Finidi emphasized the significance of the upcoming matches, stating, “You know Nigerians are watching, we want to make them proud. AFCON is gone, these are two games that are very crucial to Nigeria. We will take it seriously and make sure to get the best out of these games.”
Finidi, who is currently the head coach at Enyimba International, will be looking to make a strong impression in the upcoming fixtures, with his performance potentially influencing his chances of securing the permanent coaching position for the Super Eagles.
