The Technical advicer of Aiteo cup holders Akwa united, Coach Abdul maikaba has reiterated that his team will take every game as they come rather than piling unnecessary pressure on themselves when the new season kick starts early next year.
The former wikki tourist of Bauchi gaffer, stated this shortly after the promise keepers played out a barren draw with homers kano pillars in the ongoing NPFL Super Six invitational tournament at the Sani Abacha stadium, Kano yesterday.
“My boys played better today because we had a day rest before today’s game unlike our first game where we barely rested, we played five games in five days. Before our opening game against Mountain of fire football club, the boys were fatigued, but today you can see for yourself that we played better courtesy of the 24hours break”.
” We have done very well in the preseason games played thus far,we played a total of eleven games and lost just one game, there is a lot of improvement in the team and by the time the season commences proper, all our stragies must have been perfected”
When quized on the low scoring rate of his strikers at the just concluded Ahlan tourney and the ongoing NPFL/LMC Super Six preseason competition, he stated that
“I am a bit worried by the number of goals we are scoring per game, that is why we are working round the clock to ensure that we bring in a striker that can score more goals and also create opportunities for others to score”.
On the draws of CAF Confederations Cup held yesterday, where Akwa united has be drawn against Guniean side Banjul Hawks in the preliminary round, he noted that
” He will take every game as they come, we are going to concentrate first on the Nigerian professional football league which is billed to kick off on the 14th of January 2018, play some good number of matches before we start talking about our opponents in the Confederations Cup slated for February 2018″.
Akwa united are currently on top of group B, with 2points from two games and awaits the final game of the group between Kano pillars and Mountain of fire football club of Lagos on Friday to determine their chances of progressing to the finals.
