Wenger apologises to Arsenal star over poor treatment

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has apologized to Spanish striker Lucas Perez for giving his number 9 jersey to Gunners most expensive signing Alexandre Lacazette, according to report.

The 28-year-old forward Perez is widely expected to leave Emirate Stadium after failing to hit the ground running since making his £17million from La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna last season.

The striker, who started just two Premier League games last season, was stripped of his number 9 jersey this summer following the arrival Lacazette from Ligue 1 side outfit Lyon.

But Perez’s agent, Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle, has revealed that Wenger apologized for making that decision in a private transfer meeting last week.

‘We spoke to him [Wenger] on Friday in a long conversation,’ Lovelle told Radio Marca Coruna.

‘He was the one that set that starting price of €15million and acknowledged that he was wrong in some things [giving Perez’s shirt number to Lacazette].

‘He apologized for not doing as they ought to.’

Perez’s agent also insists the 28-year-old has received multiple offers but the best bid so far has been from his former club Deportivo.

‘Lucas Perez is calm, he has to train and worry about preparing for the season. He wants to play, he has said he wants to leave, but we also know that he has a three-year contract with a club that he signed 11 months ago,’ said
