Werder Bremen suspends Naby Keita
Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita’s stint with Werder Bremen has taken a tumultuous turn as the Guinea international finds himself suspended for the rest of the season.
Keita, who has made just five appearances for the club, faced disciplinary action after he refused to join the squad for their recent fixture against Bayer Leverkusen upon discovering he wasn’t included in the team lineup.
In response to Keita’s actions, Werder Bremen announced that they have suspended the player for the remainder of the season, along with imposing a substantial fine. Furthermore, Keita has been barred from training with the team and is excluded from accessing the professional dressing room.
A statement released by the club reads: “Werder Bremen officials have suspended Naby Keita until the end of the season. In addition, the Green-Whites have imposed a significant fine on the midfielder.”
The statement continued, condemning Keita’s behavior: “Naby’s behavior cannot be tolerated for us as a club. With this action, he let his team down in a tense sporting and personnel situation and placed himself above the team.”
Keita’s future with Werder Bremen now hangs in the balance, with his actions prompting speculation about a potential departure from the club.
