West Ham frustrate United to dent Title hopes
Manchester United Women dropped points in the Women’s Super League after being held to a goalless draw by West Ham United Women.
The result leaves United third in the table, now trailing Manchester City Women by eight points, with Chelsea Women also moving ahead after their midweek win.
West Ham, despite sitting near the bottom of the table, matched United’s intensity. Viviane Asseyi came closest for the hosts but couldn’t convert, while goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce kept things steady for United.
After the match, United boss Marc Skinner admitted his side lacked edge:
“We were the dominant team in all territories but didn’t do much with it.”
He also felt his team were denied a clear penalty:
“I genuinely think there was a stonewall penalty… if we have VAR in this league it does affect the game.”
For West Ham, it was a valuable point in their fight to avoid relegation, with manager Rita Guarino praising her team’s defensive effort and discipline.
For United, though, this felt like a missed opportunity. With the title race tightening and Champions League places under threat, dropped points like this could prove costly.
