Westbrook unveiled officially as Lakers player
Set to team up with LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony in Los Angeles
NBA great Russell Westbrook has been officially unveiled to the press and handed the jersey number zero at the Los Angeles Lakers as he completed a move to the Lakers from the Washington Wizards ahead of the commencement of the 2021/22 NBA season.
Westbrook was traded by the Washington Wizards alongside three future second round draft picks in exchange for Lakers trio of Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Montrezl Harrell, and Isaiah Jackson, the number 22 pick in the NBA draft. In his first meeting with the press at his unveiling, Westbrook relayed to them that he had nothing to prove in Los Angeles as he had already achieved what he set out to by merely making it into the NBA and using his platform to impact lives all over the world. Westbrook is the man with the most triple doubles in NBA history after he recorded his 184th triple-double during the 2020/21 regular season. It was revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers intended to sign Buddy Hield from the Sacramento Kings, but LeBron James convinced them to instead sign Westbrook.
Westbrook joins 37-year-old Carmelo Anthony in moving to the Lakers after Anthony signed a one-year deal to join the Lakers, stating that it was his deepest desire to pick up a championship ring that has evaded him throughout his brilliant NBA career. With 36-year-old LeBron James also part of the Lakers roster, it is evident that there will not be a lack of experience at the Los Angeles Lakers in the forthcoming NBA season.
