Western Conference Final: Jokic scores triple-double, named WCF MVP as Nuggets sweep Lakers
Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic was instrumental for his side as they claimed a 113-111 win over the Los Angeles Lakers to secure a 4-0 sweep in the Western Conference Final. The Serbian star recorded a triple-double in the game and was named MVP of the series.
After wins in Game 1 through 3, the Nuggets were close to a first-ever NBA Finals appearance. The #1 seed in the West were made to work for it as they were down by 15 points by the end of the first half.
A third quarter rally saw them recover the deficit and take a five-point lead before they held on in the fourth quarter and denied the Lakers a chance to reach the Finals, avenging their 2020 loss at this stage.
Jokic led his team in scoring with 30 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists, Aaron Gordon scored 22 points, and Jamal Murray added 25 points for the team.
LeBron James ended the game leading all scorers with 40 points and ten rebounds for the Lakers, and Anthony Davis scored 21 points and 14 rebounds in the game.
The Nuggets will now face one of the Miami Heat or the Boston Celtics in their first-ever NBA Finals appearance starting June 1st.
