What Chidera Ejuke said after scoring his first La Liga goal
Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke scored his first-ever La Liga goal in stunning fashion, netting an 85th-minute winner to secure a 2-1 victory for Sevilla over Real Valladolid at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
Ejuke, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer from CSKA Moscow this summer, came off the bench to replace captain Jesus Navas in the second half. He made an instant impact, pouncing on a loose pass from Valladolid and weaving past three defenders before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner. The goal marked a breakthrough moment for the 26-year-old Nigerian, earning Sevilla their second win of the season.
Sevilla had taken the lead just before halftime, when Dodi Lukebakio’s cross was deflected into the net by a combination of Peque and Valladolid defender David Torres. However, Valladolid responded with a second-half equaliser, keeping the match finely poised until Ejuke’s late heroics.
The goal was Ejuke’s first in six appearances for the club, and it came at a crucial time for manager García Pimienta’s side, who moved up to 12th in the league with eight points after seven matches.

Ejuke expressed his excitement on what he described an “important victory” for the team.

“It’s incredible to score in front of the fans, it’s an incredible feeling and also get the victory. “I’m very happy.”
Ejuke’s compatriot, Kelechi Iheanacho, also featured in the game, starting the match and registering a couple of blocked shots before being substituted in the second half.
Despite a late red card for Sevilla, Ejuke’s match-winner ensured the home side held on for all three points, capping off a memorable night for the Nigerian winger.
Sevilla’s victory will provide much-needed momentum as they look to climb further up the La Liga standings.
