What Dominic Solanke said after his Spurs debut
Dominic Solanke, Tottenham Hotspur’s recent signing for a club-record fee, made his competitive debut for the club in a Premier League match against Leicester City on Monday, August 19.
The Super Eagles-eligible center forward, who joined Tottenham after an impressive 2023-2024 season with Bournemouth, started at the King Power Stadium.
Solanke, who scored 19 goals in 38 appearances for Bournemouth last season, was eager to make an impact in his first game for Tottenham. The match saw Tottenham take the lead in the 29th minute when right-back Pedro Porro headed the ball into the net after a cross from James Maddison, a former Leicester City player.
Leicester City equalized three minutes before the hour mark with a goal from Jamie Vardy, following a delivery into the box by Issahaku Fatawu.
Solanke had two significant chances to score on his debut but was unable to find the net. He missed a header in the first half and was later denied by Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen in the second half.
Despite missing out on a debut goal, Solanke was pleased with his performance and expressed his enthusiasm about playing for Tottenham. “It was great. I’ve been here now for just over a week and I’ve been looking forward to this moment,” Solanke told Tottenham’s official website. “It was great to play with the boys in front of the fans but it was disappointing not to get the three points. We’ll look at it and improve on it and hopefully get the three points next time.”
With no injuries reported from the game, Solanke is expected to make his home debut for Tottenham this Saturday when they face Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
