After Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, manager Ruben Amorim spoke about his team’s failure to convert chances and the ongoing struggles in the Premier League.
Amorim admitted that his side had missed key opportunities in the match, saying, “The difference in the game was they scored, and we didn’t. We had our chances, especially at the end of the first half when we pushed harder. We created situations, but in the end, they took their chance, and we didn’t.”
Despite the loss, Amorim refused to use the long list of absentees as an excuse. “It doesn’t matter. It’s in the past. We want to recover players, and we can bring some back for the next match. From now until the end of the season, it will be like this. We have to stay together and finish the season strong,” he explained.
Amorim was also asked about the young players on his bench, many of whom were called upon due to injuries. “At my former club, I had a young bench, but it’s a different situation here. The Premier League is the hardest competition in the world, and we need to be careful with the young players. I felt our team was pushing for the goal, so I didn’t see the need for changes,” he said.
When questioned about his own future and whether he was concerned about his job, Amorim replied, “I’m not worried about myself. I understand what the media and others think, but I just want to finish the season strong. My focus is on the team and helping my players, especially the young ones. I hate to lose; that’s the worst feeling. But I’m confident in my work and I just want to win games. The position in the table is my concern, not my personal situation.”
