What Super Eagles B coach Daniel Ogunmodede said after victory over Ghana and CHAN qualification
Super Eagles B coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, is overjoyed after Nigeria secured their place in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for the first time in six years with an impressive win over Ghana.
The Super Eagles triumphed 3-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, marking their first-ever victory against Ghana in a CHAN qualifier.
Historic Night for Nigeria
The match began with Nigeria dominating from the start, building on a goalless first leg in Accra.
Captain Junior Nduka set up the opening goal in the 18th minute with a precise pass to Ismaila Sodiq, who calmly slotted the ball into the net.
Two minutes later, Nduka scored the second goal, converting a corner kick with a powerful finish past Ghanaian goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Nigeria continued their relentless attack, and Saviour Isaac capitalised on a defensive mix-up between Asare and defender Nurudeen Abdulai to score the third goal just three minutes later.
Although Ghana managed a late goal through Stephen Amankona, it wasn’t enough to challenge Nigeria’s dominance.
Coach Ogunmodede’s Reaction
Speaking after the match, Ogunmodede expressed his happiness with the team’s performance. “We are pleased to give Nigerians this gift during the festive season,” he said.
However, the coach stressed the importance of staying focused. “We won’t over-celebrate this achievement. Our goal is to prepare well and compete strongly for the trophy in February.”
The 2025 CHAN tournament will take place in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, and Ogunmodede is determined to lead the Super Eagles to success.
This victory not only ended Nigeria’s six-year absence from CHAN but also broke their losing streak against long-time rivals Ghana, giving fans plenty to celebrate.
